advice on indash dvd navigation radio touchscreen

I am looking for a radio to replay my 6 disc indash factory cd radio out for my 05 excursion. I have the rear dvd unit which is controlled by the radio and steering wheel buttons so I dont want to mess that stuff up. I was told in order to watch a movie in the front and a different movie for the kids in the back I would have to run seperate rca cables but I would loose steering wheel controls which I guess is fine. If any one has any ideas or models that would work shoot me a little info. By the way I came across a factory dvd touch screen navigation sirrius radio out of a f-150 at a great price but when we tried to install it it was not capadable. Thanks Dan

Kenwood, Pioneer, and Alpine all have nice video decks. Some are easier to bypass the video blockout (Like Alpine) which is against the law The Pioneers have Navi built in but are harder to bypass. All of them have controls to watch one thing in the front and something else in the rear. Your steering wheel contorls can still be used with a simple accessory add on.

That is the exact radio that i had planned on installing and after ripping my radio and the dash apart to find that it is about an inch and a half taller and the plugs in the back were different and even if I were to purchase a new harness that radio would not be capadable with rear dvd system. Its a bummer big time because I was getting that radio for 300.00.

Why do you say it would not be compatible with the factory dvd player? Is it because that headunit did not have a connection for the dvd player since it was from an F-150, if it was from an Expedition with a dvd player and the rear seat controls do you think it would work?

I have an 02 Excursion with factory rear DVD. I had a Pioneer Avic-D3 installed. The steering wheel controls work, and it works with the rear DVD system. You can even watch the rear DVD on the Pioneer screen. I have bluetooth, XM w/nav traffic, Sirius, back up camera and an IPOD attachment. The rear seat contols can not be used. I had them removed and he installed an AC inverter with audio/video inputs for a game system hook up in it's place.

I have an Eclipse AVN you can buy them on Ebay for 250-600. They fit perfectly in the dash and give you GPS, Satalite, CD, DVD, Am/Fm.

Very interested

I too would like to see photos. It sounds like the perfect set up. Can it be arranged so that a kids dvd is playing in the rear and an adult movie up front. Thanks dan

I have an `05 Eddie Bauer Excursion that has the factory rear DVD and lower controls. Had stereo shop install Eclipse AVN 6610 in dash with 2 headrest screens and a drop down screen in the rear. Has Soundstream Multi-Media DVD player for rear entertainment in back of console, where the rear controls used to be. All run thru Soundstream VAV-4 Multi audio/video controller. Love the setup, but factory unit isn`t hooked up. Installers said it couldn`t done. But after hearing that alot of you have them working with your aftermarket units, I wonder. Does anyone know how I can tie the factory rear DVD harness in or which wires to tie to so I can have that screen going also???
Thanks!

As much as I LOVE my Alpine. The Pioneer is way easier to install. There is less in the way of gear to try to find a place for.

It's one of the best all in one units.

here are some pictures...

My camera sucks and I had bad lighting in my garage.

I could not figure out how to get both screens to show the rear DVD. The D3 is new, the installer did a demo for me, I just forget how he did it.
