Question Daily Driver Diesel Question

Thinking about getting a new daily driver because of fuel costs. I am thinking about a diesel car (Jetta TDI, Passatt TDI or something similar). The question I have is does anyone have experience with these in the winter. This will be my wifes car and would sit outside at work. Live in Iowa where this winter had some days approaching -20. Will these start without being plugged in after sitting outside during the day?

If you use a fuel additive and it has a glow plug system you should be fine except for the coldest days. Greg

mhoefer is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
Its -40 Celcius here and there are tonnes of Jetta and Passat TDI's. You just need to buy winterized fuel. No problems starting them at all. Lond as the battery is good.

I have a '96 VW Passat TDI. Gets about 35-37 mpg with bigger injectors, a heavy foot, and its not running too good either.

My 84 VW Rabbit gets 35 mpg in (traffic jam) Seattle with stoplights every 10 block on average where I live.
Get out of town and cruise along will get me 40+ depending on how conservative my right foot feels.
