MP3 Stereo Suggestion

I have the Ford 6 disc changer stereo in my '01 Ex. I would like to upgrade to a stereo that supports MP3 and I was wondering what suggestions you all have. I used to own the VR3 Bluetooth MP3 stereo in my Chevy Tahoe, but it didn't play CD's (MP3 or not) very well and I don't really want that. Thanks.....

There are none currently listed on Ebay. I called my local Ford dealer and they told me it wouldn't be compatible (not sure how much I believe that). I look forward to others input and meanwhile I will shop Crutchfield as they provide a free kit for connectivty.

Since you have an '01, the plugs on the back are different ('03 & up), but I believe there is a guy that makes adaptor plugs from the old-style Ford, to the new.

I've been thinking about doing this same thing, and have been looking into it, but not deeply yet, so I may be steering you off-direction, too. What I've said is from notes only, not personal experience yet.

This is a good question for the Audio & Video Systems forum,

Don't get me wromg! I appreciate your suggestion. Unless others have suggestions....I might just go to Crutchfield because they give a free installation kit with detailed instructions for the specific vehicle for the stereo to go in. They also will tell you if a particular stereo will work or not.....

I personally Like the Alpine products. Most aftermarket decks will plat mp3 cd's as well as the Alpines have a really nice Ipod connection.

I bought a PIE adapter for my 6disc unit. It gave me 3 extra AUX inputs. I use one for XM & the other for my MP3 player. Works great.

Sounds like exactly what I need. Where did you get it and how does it work?
Thanks

I have the 6 disc with rear DVD so perhaps this will not work for you. Basically I set the radio for DVD and then I can choose from the factory DVD as well as 3 other inputs. I will look through my paperwork at home to get the exact part#.

It works awesome, I bought it from PIE OEM LEADER Manufacturer OEM Integration, I will have to get the exact part# when I get home. The first one I bought did not work correctly and I ended up buying a different part# and returning the first one. I think the first one was for a 6disc without rear DVD.

I mounted the box under the das and I mounted the input selector to the base of my XM unit.

I have a Alpine CDA-9883 Head Unit w/ SWI-JACK & the iPod cable. We love it and the ipod fits in the cubbie under the head unit. Oh the SWI-JACK is for the steering wheel controls.....FYI.

Alpine W205

Take a look at the Alpine W205. It is a 2 DIN unit that you can add just about anything to. It also has an optional plug-in GPS unit that has bluetooth functionality.

The unit plugs in behind the screen like a cassette. You can use it as a handheld.
