A tanker truck hauling 10,500 gallons of went off Route 91 this morning...caught fire...closing Route 91 in both directions. Here's a link www.wwlp.com
Authorities are apparently concerned that the bridge may be damaged and are currently diverting traffic off of I91 north.
The company that owned the tanker also owned a tanker that went off the road in Everett in early December...destroying a number of homes with the resulting fire and causing the evacuation of approximately 130 people...including a nursing home.

Apparently there was a car experiencing mechanical problems that caused the crash...three cars involved. The truck driver was pulled from his rig on fire...passersby put him out...he was taken to the local level 1 trauma center...and has since been transferred to a burn center in critical condition. This accident hits close to home...my nephew owns his own rig...hauling home heating oil and gasoline throughout the northeast...never had an at fault accident in 15 years...but...you can't always account for the other guy!!!
The accident just hit a little closer to home than I realized...the driver was a former Greenfield resident who I worked with years ago at another dealership. I've also sold him a few trucks...and his ex-wife a few vehicles. You never know!!!
I heard that the driver escaped from the truck on his own, at least that's what the news reporter said. The video of the fire was crazy, filled the air with a nasty smoke. Luckily there were no fatalities.
I just talked to the drivers ex-wife...he died at Mass General overnight as a result of 3rd degree burns over most of his body.
Wow! that is to bad...
He has to pay for some other stupid drivers..

Here is the thing..I feel the cop's do not do enough to prevent stuff like that from happening..I see people do stupid stuff right in front of Cops and they sit there and do nothing.
Not to disrespect the driver of the tanker who passed but the driver of the Subaru who caused the crash has been charged with vehicular homicide. The police must has realized as I suspected that the mechanical problem was a ploy. To be charged so soon after the crash shows he was speeding or driving reckless or both. If he truely was at fault by aggressive driving.....I hope he spends a just time behind bars.
My guys passed the accident on Center street in Chicopee just after the crash. The emergency vehicles were not even there yet.
What a shame to have this happen for the reason it did.
