Finally drove my ranger yesterday!

Good news is that I finally drove it again since sept (owned it three weeks and the tranny went), bad news is that its still got something going one, but not sure yet exactly what. Short story, tranny went out. Pulled it, rebuilt it, put it back in. Last week had a no start condition I posted about. Turned out to be the adjustment on the range sensor on the transmission. For whatever reason when lined up properly, it didnt want to work. Had to tinker with it for awhile to get it to start.

I drove it 20 miles yesterday and it seemed to drive perfect. Today it was doing a little shuddering and slipping. Dont know if its the computer relearning what its doing, or if my pressure solenoid is bad (had a code for that). I am thinking I will swap a different, but not new, solenoid in there and see if I get a change. Its easy to do without pulling the valve body off the truck.

Talking Driving again

Hi mfp4073,

Was just wondering if you're 1 of many die-hard Fordspersons?
Also stick w/ repairing the codes.

And do as Rockledge has expressed.

I dont know if you would call me a die hard ford person, but have mostly driven fords. I find myself going back to fords because its what I know. I also have a 67 and 70 mustang and have had an 88 mx6 and now have a 94 mx6. All ford related.

the codes I got off it orginally were:
P1761 Shift Sole perf
P0741 Torque Cover Clutch sys perf stuck

I cleaned everything in the valve body really good before I did the rebuild and thought I got it right. All the solenoids passed the resistance test. I have an extra set of solenoids that I may try swapping out that one to see if it changes whats going on. I am afraid to burn up the transmission again, so I am taking it very slow right now.

I am NOT getting any trans codes right now according to the dummy lights.

I am suspecting solenoids, they all test correct resistance, but still dont trust them. I called my tranny supply shop and they want only $120 for a complete solenoid kit, all 6 and seals. I am going to just throw new ones at it for that price. Should have an answer on wed as to how it turns out.
