I own a 1999 with the 4.6l. i currently have a k&n filter and after looking at images of their cold air intakes i was thinking of building my own. I have access to a pipe bender and adapters for attaching to the throttle body. has anyone ever attempted this, and if so did you get the same results as a full k&n kit?
i was also thinking of re-routing it closer to the ground to pull in even more cold air, and of course building a shroud to protect it from the heat and dirt.
Whats the intake size on the 4.6? If its something like 3" you could do it easily.. I fab'd up an intake on my 89 Mustang.. Course this was YEEEEEEEars ago.. Had a 2.3L Turbo from a Thunderbird dropped, used exhaust plumbing to route the filter down lower..
thanks for your help. I printed off directions for the installation of a k&n for my truck and i think i can pull it off. exhaust tubing was what i was planning on using also. the only thing i'm worried about is my mass air flow sensor.
thanks, i honestly never even thought of that. i'm gonna make the intake out of exhaust, wrap it in header tape and insulation then put a polished tube over the outside for appearance
