if the hose is clogged though, will the boost gaugge work?

Depends where the clog is at. Mine was at the end where the hose connects to the engine. In that case probably not much if any. The only reason I checked it was there were a few threads asking how the map sensor worked so I thought what the heck and pulled the hose. Did not know I ever had a problem, being new to diesels. Once I get a few other issues resolved I'm getting a boost gauge.
