Does 2Cy Oil Really Help?

The subject came up on a local 4X4 board where some of us have tow rigs. A buddy w/ a 97 7.3, auto, CC LB and 4.10s says he got 70 miles more out of one tank by the time he was down to 1/4 tank. And he says it's quieter because it replaces what they took out when they went to ULSD. He says he's using marine grade ashless 2cy oil from Walmart for $8/gal - adding 1oz oil/gal of diesel. I've seen where some people say they are getting 3 more mpg using 2 cy oil. Does it really help that much? Does it have to be marine grade and ashless? Is it OK to still use Diesel Kleen along with the 2cy oil, or is it redundant? What's the real scoop?

I'm interested in this one... I've been trying all kinds of additives, like diesel kleen and stanadyne, in my truck and keeping a chart of the fuel mileage ive been getting on Microsoft excell. Maybe after I run out of stanadyne ill give this one a try and see what happens.

Maybe I'm not understanding here.... But lets "estimate" that his 1/4 of a tank was around 5 Gal. 70Miles/5Gal= (aprox.) 14MPG. I can do better than that as my truck is, even without some Power Service.... Humm... Just throwing that out there...

Motor has better idle and less noise.
Have found no gains in mpg.

Has anyone seen a gain or loss in EGT with the stroke mix?

Ice, for me that would be around town with a light foot, If I'm in it, goes down quicker. Not unusual to see 14-16 round town

I guess I should splain it better...
Suppose he gets 250 miles on a tank by the time he gets down to 1/4 tank. My buddy is saying that now after adding the 2cy oil he can go 320mi by the time he gets down to 1/4 tank.

I drive my truck so little (weekend playing and a few out of town trips a year) that I wouldn't be able to experiment much with additives because it would take a long time to get results. I'm hoping to learn from others' experiences.

I put 8oz of Diesel Kleen into every tank at fill up. Harbor Freight had a sale on 10oz plastic bottles that I keep filled in my bed box. I use the additive for the engine's sake and have never run a comparison with & without in regards to mileage. I'm constantly in the mid to high teens re MPG just running around town and on the road (empty) I can sometimes break 20 MPG (Rt footcontrol).

Some of you have the advantage that you have a set route that you take on a daily basis and you have the opportunity to run these tests. I listen to what you say and if some one comes up with a product that pushes everything over the top and is in general, good for the engine others that have a set route will test it and some type of basic results will be achived to the benifit of all of us.

I am trying it in my stroker on this tank. So far I really haven't noticed much of a difference, but have only put ~30 miles on since I added it. Hopefully i'll see a mpg gain.

I've run power service every fill since I bought the truck (except once....) and it runs great! Maybe that explains why I can squeeze 20MPG on the highway (CC set to 65, and 3.55's)

2% bio diesel!!! Cleans and lubes!!!
Any thing more than the 2 to 3% has no gains.

Soy based additive work real well also.

Do you get your bio at the pump? If so please let me know where. I cant seem to find any place on LI that sells it at the pump.

Thanks
