oil seal locations

Hi,

I have a real bad oil leak on the front of the engine, maybe above the crankshaft oil seal. It's real hard to see where's it's comming from.

Where are there oil seals on the front of the engine? Any behind the timming gears? I know there's a seal around the crankshaft, any where else?

Thanks,

Mike

There is the oil seal in the timing cover at the crankshaft. Other than that I'm know of NO other seals. Try tightening your pan gasket bolts That helped my oil leaks a lot. Other than that if you have a mechanical fuel pump that could be one place Timing cover leaking. Check all the bolts to see they are tight. I didn't see where you posted what engine or year. I gave you info that I used on my 460.

My timming cover must be leaking then. I have oil leaking from on top of the timming cover. I'll check the bolts first.

Is it hard to replace the timming cover gasket?

It depends on your mechanical experience. Also check to see if it is from the intake manifold is leaking oil. If It is you should see it on the top of the timing cover. As for replacing the timing cover on a 302 be sure to watch the bolts you remove as to where they came out of. There are some of the water pump bolts holding on the timing cover & there are different lengths & not that much difference. So be ware.
