Tip of the day-Scratches.

My truck is very red and "Was" in almost premo condition until I noticed that some Dork scraped me on the drivers' side from the back of the wheel well, across the fuel door & all the way to and including the tail light lens.

I tried white rubbing compound but some of the scratches had cut through the clear coat and just wouldn't disappear. I was, to say the least, pi$$ed.

I remembered a product that I use on my blue Harley on the fairing when I would pick-up road debris and get chips. It is "Colored Turtle Wax" and it comes with a tube of wax kinda like lipstick.

Ya take the tube and fill in the chip and or scratch, let it dry, buff it off going up & down over the scratch then used some of the colored Turtle wax liquid and polish.

I went to Napa and got a bottle of Red, tried it and viola, only I or someone dragging their nose along my fender would know its there.

I'm pretty happy again. I

t only comes in a few of the basic colors. The Red Stick looked almost Purple but came out red.

only problem with that is, when the wax wears off the scraches re-apear, it takes a big scrach to go all the way threw the clear, i would try sanding first 1500 then 2000 grit sand paper, then use a rubbing compound then a polishing compound to bring the shine back. then finnish off with a normal way

Maybe your right BronkoII but my Harley is an '04 and has more tham its share of road chips and the wax hasen't fallen yet.

Bear in mind that this is a "Band Aid" fix for the little aggravations in life.

What you are proposing sounds like "Body Shop 101" Besides, once it has gone past the clear coat and past the paint it is white undeneath. Hmmmm.

It does sound like it should come out like new.

if its threw the clear you can use touch up paint and then wet sand and buff. in my experiances with colored wax, after 2 or 3 car washes the scrach is back

The wax stick is super dark almost maroon but when I finished with a liquid wax over wipe ya can hardly tell anything was there.

It's not perfect but it beats the heck out of the scratch.

Im a fan of that stuff myself. My black truck has its fair share of scratches, but as im shure yall have seen in some of the pics i have posted in the past ,that stuff hides them really well. It does wash out after a few washes, but by that time im ready for a fresh regular wax and a touchup on the scratches again anyway (darn black). The red will work with maroon also. I use to use it on my ranger which was maroon. It says on the bottle "blends with all shades of red".
