From what I am reading here, the 150 HD sounds to me like a "2/3 ton truck". What the hell happpened to a making a 1/2 ton truck. Why bother making a F250 anymore if they are going to continue increasing the payload and towing capacities on the 150!! They are touting a whopping 20% increase in mpg with the diesel over the 5.4 engine....big deal, as I see it, my '93 F150 made about 15-16 mpg most of the time, so this diesel is only going to get 20 mpg at best. That is not hardly going to offset the additional cost of the diesel engine and definitly not going to offset the $4+ dollar/gallon diesel. In fact, a lot of F250 and F350 owners say they are already making 20 mpg with their diesels so what is Ford trying to do here. This truck is not going to really offer any benefits than what you can already get with a F250 other than being able to say that they have a 1/2 truck with a diesel engine.
Back to why I started this post. The big 3 need to stop the "my truck can tow and haul more than your truck" BS and get back to making a 1/2 ton truck that gets good mpg and leave the heavy work for the 250 and 350s.
I read somwhere just a couple of days ago that truck and suv sales are off by 20 some percent (cannot recall the exact number). So congrats Ford and good luck selling your 2/3 ton diesel truck with the current diesel prices.
I agree, completely, but thats what is selling... and thats what they will continue to make until people stop buying the out of em...

I could be wrong, but this may be due to the cafe stds coming.... In other words if your GVW is 8200+ aren't you excluded from the corp avg where we'll soon have to hit 35mpg avg. If this is tru I wouldn't exect to see the 6.2L available below this either...
You can bet there will be an exemption for higher GVW vehicles. This is already good enough reason for ford to make bigger, heavier trucks. That way they can ignore the new MPG standards. This of course assumes that the law even survives the first year after being passed. There are other examples of eco-minded automotive regulation that was pushed back by the automakers.
What you have to remember is that there was a time when cars kept getting bigger and bigger for no practical reason. The writing was on the wall by 1970, but large cars were still being made and sold as much as ever. The fuel shortage of 1973 ended the landboat era, but pickup trucks survived without having to shrink in size.......that may have to change in the years ahead, and in all honesty, I think ford knows it, indeed I feel thats why they are still making bigger and bigger trucks.

The real clincher is if u let the piss tank run empty when u turn the engine off it will not start until u refill if now handy is that, I have said this before if fuel stays where it is now that half ton diesel is dead before it even gets to dealers!!

All I can say is if you like your current diesel truck than hang on to it!!!!!!(I will be doing just that)
I converted a 1987 ranger to diesel using an 85 ranger as the donor. Been lots of work but that puppy gets close to 30MPG @ 70 MPH with bad injectors. That ones a keeper too. Lets see the diesel F150 do that, if it does than maybe I'll buy one, otherwise I'm staying out of the new car/truck biz indefinately.

Good point. Emissions are one thing, but the fuel cost difference is another. Its not really worth going diesel right now if you already have a gas truck. I said I'll stick with mine because it has no emission controls at all, and it can still get better MPG than a comparable gas truck.
We have a cardlock account, so the diesel price is still not to bad, higher than gas, but for now that difference is made up in the better MPGs.
