Oh come on now!!!!!!! You didn't look hard enough for that part number on that rag. If you want it here it is: From the Chassis Parts and Accessories Catalogue Page IV; "Dusting Cloth - Wax Treated, 17 1/2x23" Ford Part Number 1A 19517!!!! (No sh&t).

OBTW your story reminds me of my dad who was festidious about cleanliness and care when rebuilding. He would put a rag across the valley like that then lightly bolt the intake maniforld down to keep dirt, nuts and bolts, horny mice, his glasses or cigarette ashes, and anything else from falling down into the engine. When he was ready to make the manifold with Carb perminent, he would go back in and remove the rag then bolt and torque. Perhaps you had a second person take over the rebuild who didn't know the rag was there for protection.

PS. And remember when painting aluminum, it requires special paint products and primers.
