Question fe oil pan question?

im about to start the rebuild of my 360 and turn it into a 390. my question is can i get a oil pan with a drain plug in a different location? the drain is on the backside of the sump and when you drian the oil it drips all over the cross member. do anybody make one or did any fe's come with something different?

I drilled a hole and welded a nut to the inside on a 300-6 I rebuilt, and have done that to several transmission pans as well. Just be sure to pick a flat area, and clean it well before you begin.

I've been considering snagging a 4wd pan and installing it for the same reason. Only I'm not sure it will fit, had a chance to get one for 20.00 at PYP one weekend and passed on it &*()&^&!! didnt even take time to see if it would possibly fit/measure anything at all.. is 20/20

But to solve the oily issues I just bust down a 12pk container and slide it under the pan as a deflection surface of sorts.. works well enough but does take a minute to get ready.

I'm guessing you have to drink the 12er before you can use the container as a deflector?? HA!

ive ran into the same problem when i replace my stock pan with one from milodon. i uses some wax paper, layed it down on crossmember, taping the end of it to the front of oil pan, works good for me. and put a creas in the paper and angled it towards oil catch pan. no mess easy clean up.

just my .01, for my thoughts

fram makes these little tube things that you put a bung in the hole. then you screw on this tube which pushes the retainer in and starts the oil draining....it is slow work when oil is cold...( that is when you down the 12 pack) but real clean..they make one for newer cars/trucks to so i also also put a remote oil filter on my 69 so it would not mess the cross mbr..even did it on the svt cobra since there was 0 room to get in there and not make a mess

When I change my oil I use a metal tray about 10'' long that is bent up on the sides like a U shape and lay it on the cross member draining towards the front. Works pretty good. Came with the truck from the original owner.

I cut the back end of the oil pan off, welded in some sheet metal to make it longer and added the drain plug in a position it won't hit the crossmember. Got 7 quart capacity now and no mess during an oil change.

You can use any of the FE/FT pans in the 60's and 70's trucks, they all fit, except maybe a Cobra "T" pan.

I thought that those tube extender things would not work on the FE oil pan becuase where the bolt/drain hole is on the pan it is curved?
