IF you have no time there is a plug on the drivers side of the tranny, just pull the bolt out and put ur probe in there, they say its not the bes location but thats where mine is, ill move it to the pan some day.

that's what I was thinking. Isn't putting it in the plug in the side of the case allwoing it to be in the "flow"? My thoughts on the pan are, is it possible to have a lower temp on the gauge than actual since it's not "internal"?

I always here that it is cooler than what is in the pan. I did it in that plug becuase it was fast and easy. But maybe that is the better way.

i would think inside of the trans is going to be hotter since you are closer to the clutches and drums, the pan should be cooler. i would think the hottest point is going to be the trans outlet line headed towards the cooler

I was thinking the same thing but i herd it on here from a few people so i belived it. Hopefully one day ill have a outside trans filter and ill put it in there becuase that will be off the hot tranny line and like you said that is the best spot for it.

I put mine in the side of the tranny but was told that is not the ultimate spot as you are reading the return oil from the cooler. If and when I pull the pan again I will weld/braze a bung in the side of the pan.

I put it in the plug. I forgot to mention that i had a magtag pan, i was hoping there was just a plug on it and there was a plug but it was little small. we didnt feel like draining the oil out and do all the drill and such. Ill probally do that when i take my pan out to see if/what i have done as far as vavle body and such.
