oil pressure issue

i have a 79 f-250 4x4 with a mid 70s 460, my question is whee does the oil pressure sending unit get it supply from? does the oil go from pump to sending unit to filter? or pump to filter then sending unit? the reason i am asking is my oil pressure reads on h (factory guage) all the time while running. thought maybe filter is stopped up.

I wouldn't trust the factory gauge. Mine always reads L and I have checked with a wet gauge that reads 80PSI.

i am getting ready to go out and change the filter and see if that makes a difference. i was thinking about installing a mechanical guage, can i remove te sending unit and install the new guage line there?

You need to test the gauge and the sender. Find the oil pressure sender and ground the wire with the key in the on position. Should show full scale deflection. Remove the wire from ground and gauge should show zero. If it does replace the sender. I doubt the filter is the issue as the sender is after the filter. I can't think of an engine with the pressure sender before the filter.

Yes you can remove the sender and install the wet gauge connection in the same hole.

You can install a "T" and have both hooked up too.
