can you take the cats off

I bet you didnt even remove the cat. Any vehicle after 1996 has downstream 02's to monitor the performance of the catalytic converter. I bet they were just resonators to reduce noise. In any case DO NOT remove catalytic converters. It does no good. The reason they got such bad flack is because when they came out, they used pellets coated platinum and other rare metals, which would cause an exhaust restriction. If you look at the material out of a cat today, it is a honeycomb type material, that DOES NOT restrict exhaust flow. Anyone who says they cut off their cat and gained 20 HP is on crack, that is unless they have some engine problems, and had a clogged cat.
Think of it like this, if Ford is engineering a vehicle to compete with Dodge, Chev, Toyota, they WILL make the cat big enough to handle all the exhaust the engine can put out.

well i clearly never said that i gained any power only that it increases the volume of the exhaust. there are two cats, THEN THE DOWNSTREAM O2 SENSORS, as i stated before. the two rear cats are located after the sensors. i suppose they could be resonators, but everyone i've ever talked to called them cats. and from what i am told, not 100% sure so don't quote me, they are for noise reduction only. i live in alberta and cops don't have smog detectors here. so that wouldn't be an issue for me anyway. also, when i put headers on i'm going to eliminate the front two cats and put in O2 sensor simulators

Hey, I'm not trying to get on your case dadirtydogg. I'm just saying that you probably didn't even remove any emissions equiptment (cats) so you dont have to worry about getting in trouble or anything. I would have cut off the resonators too if I had nice new truck like that! My GF's mom just got an 06 F150 CC, and i'm trying to talk her into duals, lol

Take the muffler out.....it will be PLEANTY loud that way...i'm confident its as unlawful to remove the cats up by you as it is by us.....and again...theres really no benefit...

i'm in grande prairie... my buddy let me use his hoist and welder.... i had to drop the exhaust down to get the weld properly around the top though. was a little bit of work.... i ran my truck with no exhaust when i put my magnaflow muffler on and it was loud, but i prefer the sound with the muffler and the two cats/resonators removed
