4.5l v-6 turbo diesel???

I am very entertained by all the deisel/hp/torque speculation and appreciate the dynamics of the automobile/truck industry as a whole. Was wondering if anyone who is connected with Ford could answer this question(or simply anyone that knows)...Was looking at a 2008 brochure on Ford trucks and saw that they make a Ford LCF. It appears to be a medium size box truck. I am guessing it may be a rebadge of some sort...just looks as if they took something else and atttempted to make it Ford like. It is powered by a 4.5l V-6 turbo diesel that puts out 200hp and 440lb.-ft of torque. Is this Ford's engine?? Would it not fit or work with the 09 F150? There must be a good reason...those numbers and Ford being the first to get to market with a 1/2 ton diesel would have been very advantageous to Ford regardless off the disimal fuel prices.

No this isn't it. I think the 4.5 V6 was introduced around the same time as the 6.0. It uses a lot of the same technology.

Anyway, I believe it wasn't used because of too much vibration and possibly not meeting emissions requirements for 1/2 tons.

However, I think that emissions could have been dropped and this engine used but quite simply I think Ford is lazy and didn't want to screw with it when the F150 was selling well anyway.

Honestly I think Ford and all the rest have missed the boat on 1/2 ton diesels. With diesel now around $1 higher than gas, I think they are going to be hard pressed to sell diesel F150s, especially if they are priced a lot higher than the big gas engine.

Maybe I'm wrong and people really want diesels that bad, but they should have done more to get them into the 04s instead of waiting until 09.

no its navistars engine,

i asked the guy at the ny auto show about the diesel and he just mumbled some stuff about how theyre still in talks about selling jaguar which i have no idea what that has to do with if ford is building their own diesel or using a navistars, also asked if the e locker would be in anything besided fx4, "uh well they actually dont even tell us", asked about the 5.4 he said 315 hp or more and for tq didnt say anything even told me he doesnt know the mpg i was kinda disappointed with the order date i think in like 7 weeks or so

no its an international engine. it is basically a 6.0 minus 2 cyclinders. the engines actually share some of the same parts. Jason

That and the JLR 4.4L engine is in the process of being built in Mexico for the Ford trucks. Thre big fly in the ointment is that Ford has a contract with International to build diesels and there is a no compete clause. So Ford can not go around saying they are going to violate the contract. They would be liable for sure. Never mind they have to finalize the JLR sale before they say that the took some technology out of the two companies in GB. Lots of liability in these contracts and sales agreements. I would guess that they have to iron out some other details as well, since some of the engine technology that they used at JLR is being considered for Volvo, another Ford captive import product from Europe...

I wonder

I wonder what the mpg's of this diesel could be if it produced 200 hp and 450 trq?? My guess is that nobody would be happy with it as they could not say mine has more hp and trq than yours. That size motor will never happen it would make too much sense in the wallet.

the 4.4 is not the one to be offered in the F-150 and Expy. The 4.6 is. It's design comes from the Range Rover Euro. And it is a very efficient engine with plenty of power. I drove one for 6 months while doing time in Balad. The one I drove was a V-8 with twin turbos.

When did they change it to 4.6? All I've heard is the talk of the 4.4 that is based off the 3.2 or 3.6, something smaller like that anyways

I guess the question is what do you think the fuel economy was?? That is the only way this diesel project is going to work is if the can get mpg's out of it with decent power.

The problem isn't that Ford is lazy, the problem is that Ford and Navistar are not playing nice anymore. Ford is trying to develope their own engine to prevent supply problems like those with Navistar. Ford will get it worked out, hopefully before it's too late.

BTW, Ford signed some other no compete clauses with other parties for other supplied products. It's going to be interesting to see if Ford chooses to get back into those markets. It may depend on how they come out of the current International/Navistar mess as to whether they go back to those other product lines.

IMHO, it's all cleaning up the mess that Nasser and his crony filled shop made starting back in the nineties.

I'm not the kind of guy that will just make up a number for you. The Speedo was in KLICKS and the fuel was measured in Liters. We spend close to 1/2 of every shift idleing to use the A/C. But I did enjoy the snappy performance.

I doubt the hp numbers will be anywhere around there....the torque maybe....but not the hp....the gassers don't even come close to that...
