You are close but your numbers are way off. There will be 2 diesels offered. A 4.4 V8 and a 2.x V6. The V8 will be about 330 HP and 450+ft lbs. THe V6 will be in the low 200 HP and 3xx ft lbs. I read it last weekend in the diesel magazine. It also said nothing about cost or MPG. Unless the $$$ for diesel comes down, I don't see Ford or anyone else selling many of them. There are over a dozen auto manufacturers trying to get their diesel out on the market. The price of fuel scares the heck out of me!

Itīs "just" a matter of prioritys.
In Europe we have the double prize, and are surviving anyway. Driving diesels with +33 mpg and +200 hp is making it easier.

Just as a comparison

PRIZE OF $100,000 FOR NEW AUTO FUEL; International Association of Auto Clubs Offers It for a Substitute for Gasoline.

January 26, 1913, Sunday
New York Times

With the announcement of an international prize of $100,000 for the best fuel other than gasoline, capable of being used in existing internal combustion engines, the first serious step has been taken to meet the rapidly advancing price of gasoline. The offer of the prize comes from Europe, and shows that the pinch is being felt not only in the United States, but all ever the world.

Yup I missed the date, but the reality is big oil is about as corrupt a business that there is on the planet and they will not let anything happen that will cut into their profits

In some ways I agree. Just last year they "discovered more oil in the Gulf of Mexico" than all the previous oil pumped so far in history. Wonder what ever happened to that patch? No one is talking about it now!
