I put gas in my Powerstroke!!!!

Please tell me I didnt just kill my truck. I put 2.5 gallons of gas in my truck by accident. I realized what I was doing and ended up putting another 35 gallons of diesel in to try and dilute the gas. Will this hurt anything. Is there anything that I should do? I called the local ford garage they said 5-600.00 to clean out the system but then said it was just precautionary and not 100% neccessary I dont think they know what they are talking about. Please any help would be appreciated.

i was reading on another site that a little bit wont hurt and a lot of stations actually have some gas mixed in at some small quantity just because of how the tanks and everything are for whatever reason. if your truck ran fine then you dont have to worry unless you want to change filters to ease your mind

dont worry i did this in my truck at work , i put 95 ron gas in instead of diesel.

i think i put about $40 worth in by mistake (about 7 gallons at the time)
realised then topped it up with diesel till it was overflowing. (i paid for tha gas out of my own pocket in case work though i was buying it for my own use on their account)

worried like mad that i my employment may be terminated if someone found out about it for the rest of the day but truck was still driving fine.
went home worried.
went in the next day , truck still drove fine.
next day truck still fine , talked to a friend of mine who rents out a few trucks and he said not to worry, in the winter (here in the uk) he often puts a few gallons of gas in the tank to stop the diesel from freezing.....

panic was over & no problems with the truck from the gas.

so as someone who's been there , dont worry , just fill up next time with the correct fuel

Okay, this question comes up every so often. Gas in a diesel tank happens all the time. But does anyone have any real answers to the question?

I feel confident that the OP will be fine because he ended up at less than 10% gas. I've seen and heard of that happening so no big deal. But how much is considered okay, and what will happen if too high a percentage is used?

Loss of lubricity as the percentage goes up is an obvious problem. Some bio would be an easy way to minimize any damage. What else happens? Detonation or pinging? What will that do.

If I make this same mistake, am I okay at 25%? 50%? At what point should I just bite the bullet and pump my tank?

Ford is not going to help us with this answer. They will say no gas at all is allowed. They have nothing to gain by letting you slide, and much to lose if any damage was done based on their answer.

So, we're stuck with guesswork and rumors. Unless someone can show some concrete evidence.

Any takers?

Thank you to all for your quick responses. I am very happy to find that I am not the only moron out there that has done this and that the chances of damage to my truck are very slim.

Thanks again,

Jason

Good question, and I don't know, but I won't let that stop me from guessing.

And I'll guess that it would not. Because Diesel Kleen has been shown to not add as much lubricity as we would like, plus since gasoline already ignites faster than diesel, more cetane is not needed.

I know what you are thinking though. In such a situation it might be a lot easier to find DK than Bio. Maybe some of the 2-stroke oil would be better than DK and easier to find than Bio.

I know from experience that when you get too much gas in there it will smoke bad detonate ,have no power and probably won't idle . My dad put about 25 gals of premium in 2002 F250, and didn't realise he did it till it started running bad and he called me when I got to him I found gas in the fuel filter . He then did the V8 smack , and remembered being at the wrong pump . He only drove it about 3-4 miles so I just drained everything filled her back up with diesel juice and let it idle about 15 min. and all was good in the world again.

gas in diesel

It is not unusual for home brew biodieselers to add small amounts of gas to their biodiesel production in the winter to aid starting and prevent gelling.
A little won't hurt

I made the mistake in Switzerland with a rental car. Wan't as smart as you guys about diesel back then. I figured a green handle on a pump labeled diezel was diesel. I had it towed and let the credit card guys and the home base back in the states worry about it. Bad night, the butt of many jokes at work, but when I hear people say everything in Europe is messed up it makes a lot more sense now.
