Superrob, your 69 camaro is exempt from smog checks to get registered but if it gets inspected at a mobile inspection the factory stuff still has to be there.

Ok I looked into this and you can call and check me out, I was told That above is not true , Using our 69 as a example : They said a motor swap to ANY Year motor was ok , So I asked what about a Older 50's motor? (fill in the blank on model) No Problem its Exempt they said. No smog required ?, WHAT ? , WHY ?
The Exempt status was intended to keep older (mostly driven by poor people) cars on the road in which smog equipment is worn out or no longer avaliable.
Driving a smog exempt vehicle without smog is what the law is about. So instead of outlawing the cars (and getting sued by the ACLU)they Exempted them. Very Simple. So Take from it what you want but thats the C.A DMV/SMOG INFO I got

I have been reading the posts and was wondering if they are doing visuals on the emissions eqipment why you could not pull the dpf, gut it, and reinstall it?

I'm doing my part to reduce food imports, control rising food costs and help feed the children, my trucks run on 100% petroleum diesel. What are you doing?

The DPF is need on the 6.4L just to meet 2007 emissions standards. As it sits, even with the DPF the motor will not meet 2010 emissions.

I have deleted my DPF on my Duramax. I'm not worried about anything because I used to have a highly modded Mustang and me and my friends had to deal with this sort of stuff. Basically to stop street racing the cops started targeting modded cars and writing tickets. It didn't matter what you had done they would just send you to a smog ref. You'd pay a fine and have it cleared by a smog ref. To go that route it was like 175 bucks. If you did nothing you could just pay the fine of around 350-400 and risk getting more tickets. Most did nothing because it was too much work to return the vehicle to stock. I had several friends written up for no cats, nitrous, low tire tread, hell anything they could find that was modified and didn't have a carb # etc. The only thing they wanted was your money. They didn't care if you cleared up the problem. Most of my friends and me sold our cars because it was enough of a deterant for us. At most it'll be the same with a Diesel truck. I doubt they'll target diesel trucks like they were with modified cars though.

So with or without the DPF in 2010....6.4's will not pass? along with everything diesel made, until a new fix is manufactured? That is crazy, do you think FMC will switch out the new DPF in place of these DPF's on the 08's to make them 2010 compliant.

fordfish, our trucks will be grandfathered in just like the older ones. ford will have to come out with a new motor if they want to sell diesels in 2010

All worries are B.S , There are no Smog police lurking around. The worst in all my years in C.A is at the street races. And all they can do is give a fix ticket (no charge). take your vehicle to a approved smog station for a check .Period.

The Police , CHP ect are not trained in all the Smog laws its just not true
They can write a fix it ticket and thats it , Period

Do you guys have any idea how much training and testing would have to be added to have Chp , Police whatever to do smog checks on the side of the road?
The laws and vehicles change almost every year . There is NO Money in the Budget for the MIn stuff, let alone A PDF Police task force. No WAY
No Way ,No Way.

They (the gov) Are allowing Nafta trucks to run right in from Mexico with no DOT or SMOG anything.

Passing all kings of scary laws is great. Enforcement is A whole other thing.

If you Don't belive any of this don't, Ask the Police ,Chp, Sherif ,local anybody you want yourself. Ask about All the Smog laws and how many road side smogs they have done . your answer will be -0-.
I hear ya' man, all I can report is what I said in my earlier posts. The CHP set up a roadside check in my town, stopped every diesel going down the hiway, thiefed the tanks looking for red-dyed diesel, and did visual inspections of smog gear -- my friend got a warning ticket for just having the wrong emissions sticker under his hood on his dump truck! (and I agree that a true smog test would be far more complicated). FWIW, that's what I know to be true in my area of CA anyway...

and yes, it's a BS matter as far as I'm concerned as well...
