will 225 wide tires fit an aero? i got a brand new set on my van, but when they wear out i wanna get some 16" rims. i'm lookin at 225/55-16 for replacements in the same diamter. the stockers fill the wheelhouse well enough, but i want wider tread and smaller sidewall. 225/55-16 is only .2" smaller than the 215/70-14's and obviously 10mm wider.
In theory, those measurements would indicate the bigger tire should fit. But in practice, the lower profile tires are usually more square than the higher profile tires. That's one way they have more tread on the ground. It's the corners of the more square profile that stick further out than the rounder profiles, and will be the parts that interfere, if they are going to. So there is a greater chance of interference with the lower profile tires that otherwise have similar ODs and widths.
My calculations show that a 225/60/16 size should be just about the same OD as stock, and will probably fit without interference because of its more rounded profile.
i used the miata net calc for it (i'm on a laptop with no side numbers for calc...it sucks) thats where i got the numbers from. i know its the same od, just dont know how much space there is on the back size for wider tires. notably, the fronts would be the problem for rubbing. thats why i asked.
