Tuners for 04 cummins

My buddy has an 04 cummins and has been asking me about getting a tuner/chip for his truck to help mostly with economy. I havnt really had any experiance with the cummins and dont really now what works best with those trucks. He keeps talking banks this and edge that but I figured if there are better/cheaper options for the powerstrokes there is probably something for the cummins. Thanks for any advice.

Also as of now every thing on his truck is stock. He was saying he'd rather not have to do the gauges right now.

the tuner/programmer has to be for the exact year( specific), due to the changes between the 04's and 04.5's trucks. an edge juice for an 04.5 truck will not work on an 04 truck. some of the differences off of the top of my head are-some internals of the 04 and 04.5 engines are different,04's have a separate computer for the tranny and engine, where the 04.5 has one computer that does both.injectors are different. the 04's have a mechanical waste gate, the 04.5's have an electronic waste gate. the 04.5's have the 3rd injection event-the 04's do not. the 04.5's have a bigger exhaust, etc, etc. i have read posts were an owner has a specific brand of box/tuner/programmer on a 04 truck and loves it and an owner of an 04.5 truck has the same brand, but for his year truck and is not happy with it- too much smoke, throwing codes, etc and vice-versa. that is the reason i asked. i did not want to give out a recommendation not knowing exactly what year truck he had.
