I installed the K&N induction kit. After researching everything, K&N has one of the better filters out there. The main thing to look for is that the air intake tube is made out of plastic. This way, it will not get hot and heat the air while it travels up to your intake manifold. I know that chrome looks better, but I've heard that when the air warms up, it's the same as having your stock air intake installed.
I noticed less hesitation when I step on the gas and a small HP increase as well. I balanced out the air intake with a larger exhaust too. Bassani quiet thunder cat back system. Little more HP and a nice beefy sound without much drone inside the cab.

I purchased and installed the K&N FIPK complete kit on my 4.6L. The installation is easy and looks great. Is it worth the money?... The sound is great when you nail it and response seems to be better at higher revs.(low end response with the gearing is good anyways)You won't need to buy another air filter. Despite the claims by K&N, don't expect to feel a sudden power increase once the kit is installed. I don't know yet if gas mileage is better - too early to tell.

I'm not sure how true this is but, a friend told me to clear the computer once I installed the K&N filter. He said that despite the fact that the computer takes random samplings, it takes quite a while to adjust for a new baseline. Supposedly by disconnecting the battery and clearing the computer, it will clear the old baseline and start all over. I haven't replaced my filter yet and I don't know whether or not this will make a difference. But, I figure at the cost of having to reset my stereo presets, it's worth a try. If anyone knows anything about this, I'd sure like to hear about it.

I have had a few of the K&N systems on Ford trucks...there is always a SLIGHT increase in power and torque, but you might not notice it if you don't look for it....pretty slight. Also, K&N does NOT advertise increased fuel economy....that's good, because I never saw any improvement in mpg.
They look neat and do provide some benefit. I find that in addition to a good exhaust (I have a Gibson) the K&N does improve performance........I'll probably buy one for my 2001 Supercrew

I noticed a metal honing noise when I step on the gas.
Anyone know if that is normally after a K&N filter
and induction system is installed? I have a 2001, F150
with less then 2000 miles.
Also I am thinking about changing the stock air
mass sensors to an aftermarket sensors any
recommendations. I read one manufacture
claiming that they can increase your horsepower
by 8 HP after 2000 RPM by using their sensor.
Anyone have any experience with that?
