Buy a truck that has been sitting on the lot for 8-9 months?

I recently started looking for another truck. Not to replace my F350, just a second truck. I started looking at regular cabs with the V6, but I just can't do it. I could probably live with the RC, but I think I would kick myself for not buying a V8. And you guys have pretty much convinced me the 5.4 is the way to go.

My dilemma is this. It has to be an XL with vinyl. I'm weird like that. And I prefer the 6.5' bed. I could get a decent price on an 08 RC with a 4.6, 5.4's are pretty scarce in XL's. The rebate is only $1000 more on 07 regular cabs, and the price actually came down a little bit this year. But in super cabs, the rebates are much higher for 07's, and the prices on 08's did not come down like they did on regular cabs. Talk about a rare bird, an 07 SC 4x2 shortbed XL with a 5.4. But, I did find one.

The truck stickered at just under $26k. With the rebates, I can probably get it for $17k with FMCC financing, or $18k without it. Ken ran the numbers for me a few weeks ago and it seems those numbers come out roughly $1000 under invoice minus rebates. The best I think I can do on the same truck in an 08 right now would be about $21.5k. I could basically get into a 07 SC with the 5.4 for about the same as could get an 08 RC with the 4.6.

Ken said the truck arrived at the dealership in July 07. Would you buy a truck that had been sitting for that long?

Yes I would it is covered for 3 years from date purchased bumper to bumper. I would have the dealership change the oil on it before I took it though.

Thats what you have warrante for, my aunt bought an 06 in May of 07, it had been sitting on the lot for 6 months and the other dealers lot for at least 2 months before that, and once it had been driven a little bit, it was fine.

If the truck is what you want,i say get it.
ask if that is the "X Plan" price
You may save a little more, may not.
I work for ford and our family in Texas got a better deal than I got him on"A plan"
I didn't think you could beat A plan

I actually am not even completely sure this won't fall through. I have my doubts, their internet department doesn't seem to like to talk specifics of pricing over the internet. This place is 275 miles away. I basically need it in writing. If I drive 275 miles and they start trying to mess with the pricing...

My 04 sat on the dealer's lot exactly a year before I bought it. I didn't have any problem with it after I drove it about 100 miles to smooth out the flat spots on the tires and wear the rust off of the brake rotors.

You could get a V6 five-speed RC/6.5' bed with the 6500 lb GVW package, four-wheel ABS discs, AC, PS, PB and FM radio for $15,000 out the door. Since it would be a second truck, I don't see getting a V8 auto.

It will need to tow 3500-4000lbs on occasion. I'm not sure the five speed is rated to tow quite that much. Though, I towed nearly that for years with my 95 F150 with the five speed.

stale inventory credit

The truck should be good to go and at that price, it's a deal...

Just a thought, but check to see if the truck qualifies as "stale inventory". Ford will give the dealers $1K back towards end of model year to move a truck that's been sitting. I only saw this deal on a King Ranch demo that was sitting at year end, but it's worth checking to see if it applies to the SC you're looking at.

Thanks for the info, I had never heard that before. But perhaps that is why to price is conveniently $1000 under invoice. That said, things are not moving along too well with the truck. I emailed them the other day, and called the guy on Thursday. He recognized my name and quickly remembered what truck I was calling about. He said he had two or three things going on right that minute and he would call back or email me the final out the door price. I made it very clear I was ready to buy something. So far no calls or email
