Rear Gate Gasket?

I just picked up an 02 Excursion and so far I love it. It is a V10 model and has about 60,000 miles on it. My question is I have notice some noise coming from the rear window. It sounds like the rear gate that shuts on the two barn doors is rattling some. I looked at it and on the top of the barn door I have noticed the paint is rubbed off. It almost looks like I am missing some door seal or gasket that should be on the bottom of the lift gate. The paint that is missing it towards the outside of the door. Maybe I'm wrong. Does anyone have or know where I could find an exploded diagram of the rear window area and what gaskets it may have? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Other than that the vehicle has been great. All kinds of suburbans up here but I am about the only Excursion. Kind of fun to watch people blink when I pull up next to them.

no gasket that goes there...there should be a couple of small round bumpstops though...they fit into a couple of tiny holes on the bottom of the rear hatch, towards the rearmost edge...if you look at your close up of the barn door tops, you can see the little crescent shaped wear mark on the left door..

Theres supposed to be a seal or gasket there. My Excursion has a rubber seal that runs almost all the way across the liftgate, yours is definately missing it.

Where is your seal located on your liftgate? Is it towards the outside or inside of the gate. If you could send a pic of what your gate looks like that would be helpful. I went to the ford dealer and he gave me two new lift gate bump stops but they weren't too sure either.

After looking at my middle picture the only place that I can see that a gasket might go is towards the bottom of the gate, where the holes can be seen. Is that where yours is located?

Look in my gallery. I got some pictures in there that show the gasket.

Hope it helps

Maybe Ford changed the seal or something because when I go to the Direct Ford Parts website it has a build date for the glass weatherstripping assuming that this is the right part. Heres the link.

Thanks for the pics. I am definately missing that piece. I went to the link but unfortunatly it didn't have a illustration to show if that is the one I need or not. Guess I will have to try to contact them and see.

Just opened my email and got this reply from directforparts.

Hi Jon. The seal on the bottom of the gate is 1C7Z7842084AA List 36.85 yours 26.05...You can order by Factory Part Number on the homepage of our website www.directfordparts.com. You would need to go to box #2, enter the part number(s), and follow the prompts from there. You will need to make sure that your profile is complete and accurate or the system won't let you order. Thanks,Brian

So the link from aortizexcursion was right. Guess I'll order one today and see how it goes from there.

Thanks everyone for the help.

I have the little piece of the plastic (?) protector on the barn doors and it's also rubbed and wondered why Ford would only put the rubber seal on the inside of the liftgate and not the outside..I hate it when you're out on a wet road and open the liftgate and it's full of dirt and water and then when you close it and water sprays all ober you..Guess I'll go out and look at it now.. On second thot,it's raining really, really hard out now(kinda like the proverbial cow Pi****g on a flat rock, but this is a whole herd) and I don't want to get sprayed when I close it....

bcrewcaptain,

I have a similar piece of rubber on mine as well. The real hard scrapping comes from further out on the gate, almost where the outside handle section meets up with the gate. Yours is starting to lose paint in the same place that mine has. I have ordered the gasket that directford reccomended so I'll keep everyone updated on how it works out.
