You could buy just the miirror heads at one time. These mirrors were similar to the types used from 1957 thru 1973 on F100/350's and Econolines thru 1974, and on BIG Ford trucks from the 1950's thru the 1990's.

There was a thread just a couple of days ago where pics were shown and data was given.

It's possible to buy these mirrors on ebay, and if looked for, mirror heads similar to yours can be found new..if you know where to look.

While searching Dennis Carpenter's online obsolete parts locater the other day for another part, I found he has one side of a new old stock set on their NOS website.

Gas mileage: 10-12 around town, over 20 on the highway. Having a overdrive transmission is the key.

Across the pond, Jag-uar's used the Laycock d'Normanville Overdrive at one time...had one on a XK150 many moons ago.

We rented a Vauxhall at Heathrow, on one of our recent trips to the UK, and drove throughout England as far north as the Lake District and most of Wales.

The petrol cost, was something like 6 US dollars a litre!

Driving on the right wasn't too tough, but the 100's of round-abouts took some time getting used to.

Hi--I get 14 mpg or around that. My truck weighs almost 10,500 lbs. and is a heavy beast. I really like yours and would be cool to camp in. I will pull a 63 supercharged avanti on a trailer, and live in my 56 as I can also store parts inside. The box is 18' and the bed area is 4'x8' and very comfy and has translucent roof,so you can see all the time it is daylight.
I may pull my 56 F100 when done and hope to hit some shows this year. Best of luck to you......Bill

LOL...I can just picture you hitting an antique row in some small town, and trying to load all the goodies you bought in that Avanti's trunk!
A kangaroo's pouch is bigger!

You'd be better off trailering a 1963/64 Studebaker Wagonaire...equipped with the R2 engine, of course.

Pete,

From my perspective I've got to say, "Please...do not modify or customise anything on your truck! It is simply too nice, too original and too unique to alter.

I realise it's your truck and you can do whatever you want with it, but bear in mind your truck is probably one of maybe a handful ever built. Sort of a piece of automotive history.

Just my .02 worth,

Bill

He's actually quite correct, but a Propane convertion would be the Least envasive.

I agree with the Col. I should have advised to keep any modifications to a level where they could always be removed allowing the truck to revert to an as-built condition.

FordF350camper---thank you so much--I appreciate it. I have a bunch of 56 Ford trucks and my camper has 21,000 original miles and from S.Georgia. I have all propane stove and heater in camper,as it is the easiest to use,and like COL. said is least invasive and can be moved out. I will post pics of my camping this spring on LAKE ERIE and with my 3 dogs and wife.
Again thanks for the help Bob,AND fORDf350CAMPER----my wife is English, and I am Scottish and Welsh, and our dream is to go to Britain 1 day. I think I will go to my barn and look at my trucks......thanks.........Bill
