i can get a set of RVT grand prix tires 37x12.50 on a 16.5 rim for 200 dollars.
maybe less? they look like the ground hogs.

these are some pics i found on the net, not the tires i am going to look at. but they are the same thing.

would they be worth 200 if they got that much tread?

Looks good Coleman!

Thanks Karl....
Nothing like newbie bashing to make me feel like I dont know what Im doing.

The fact that it was running fine and suddenly stopped after the backfire would lead me to believe that it isnt the coil or wires. Im thinking its distributor related. Backfires are usually timing related.

Ill dig in to it tomorrow. I dont think it would be a good idea to get snot in the distributor hole.

Good luck with that Kris, I'm clueless to your probelm.

My Bronco had been starting fine, but the possitive battery cable was trash.
I bought a new one and replaced it, and now it doesn't start.

The starter spins, but doesn't turn the engine over....
What the hell is that? Ignition module(brain box), or starter solenoid, or what?

I was going to get some more flu medicine earlier today and was going in George. I cranked it up and let it idle to warm up. I started feathering the gas a little (maybe to 2500-3000rpm but no tach to verify) so it would warm up quicker and it backfired through the exhaust. I tried to crank it again and it backfired through the carb. I went out about 10-15 min ago and spun it over but it wont start. It seems like its not getting fire but I dont have anyone here to spin it over while I check.

Any suggestions?

It broke a distributor gear roughly 200 miles after I built it and what was left was worn to hell. I replaced the distributor and that was almost 3000 miles ago. I checked the gear 6-8 months ago and it was fine without the slightest sign of wear. I dont want to go pulling the distributor retiming it and all that crap if I dont have to.

For all of you who say "nows the perfect time to pull the engine for a 545"
thats not good.......well when it doubt dump more gas in the carb

If you have 12V going to the starter (obviously if the starter is spinning) then its not the solenoid. Id say the starter isnt engaging the flywheel. The doo-hickey isnt poping out when you shoot the juice to it.

I think its the dizzy gear I just dont want it to be. The roll pins are known to sheer on BBFs.

its getting gas and air just no fire. It seems someone told me in mechanics for dummys that you have to have all 3 to make an engine run. Having more of one thing doesnt make up for the one thats lacking

I dont want to spin it over too much because if the gear is broken... the starter turning the crank isnt turning the timing chain which isnt turning the cam which isnt turning the distributor which isnt turning the oil pump. OH YA THE FUN BEGINS!

hmmmmmmm.......well i guess the only option is start throwing matches down the carb one at a time

The good thing is, if you have a dual sump pan, is the gear remnants will fall straight down past the oil pump and stay in the front sump away from the pickup. Change the oil/filter like twice and call it good.
