Superchip for 5.4L???

Hey guys, I was just curious who had a chip for their gas engine and if it was worth the money. Was there any considerable gain in mpg, hp, torque? Mine is an 02. Thanks for the help.

Got one for my 03 5.4L. Maybe 1 or 2 mpg's, on a good day. The shifting definitely feels better, but I don't think it really helped out in HP much, especially towing my trailer. I got mine pretty cheap, so I didn't really lose much.

I bought a programmer for my '01 with the 5.4 and manual tranny, I did see some hp gains. I had 315's on it, and the extra power helped pull the truck over some of the passes around here. The only thing I didn't like was having to utilize premium fuel when the setting was in the mid to high perf. mode. I have a 7.3 L diesel Excursion with a programmer, and 4" exhaust. Compared to that, the 5.4 seemed pretty anemic, and it may just be me. I don't think i saw any real gains in the MPG maybe 1 or 2 but that wasn't constant.

OK, lets do the math.

Camo_Frog says maybe a 2 MPG increase, we'll say he went from 15 MPG to 17 MPG.

Cost per mile with fuel at 3.29 a gallon:
22 cents per mile at 15 MPG
19 cents a mile at 17 MPG

3 cents per mile savings.

Payback (figuring the programmer was $400) at a 3 cents per mile savings, 13334 miles.

All in all, not too shabby.

i think that an intake and exhaust really allow the superchip to use its full potential.

the only other thing ive found that has actually helped my low end power and mpg (in town) was a Airaid/Poweraid throttle body spacer... upped me to 14-15mpg in town drivin ( as long as im not stepping on it all the time)

http://www.airaid.com/spacers.asp#ford

here is the model i used ..... the "400-531"
http://www.airaid.com/400-531_ford.asp
http://www.airaid.com/pdf/400-531.pdf

paid about $100 for it

I have a K&N intake already, do you know if this is compatible with that? If it is, I will probably buy that. Was it hard to install? Thanks for the help fellas.

at this point no im not using a airraid intake ...

i am using a ram air hood

https://www.ramairhood.com/store/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=50

with a functional ram air - airbox that ataches to the stock airbox.

https://www.ramairhood.com/store/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=48

i used to have this K&N FIPK intake

http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=63-2570

it did seem more responsive over stock, but i much prefer my ram air now.

do u still have stock exhaust ?

No, flowmasters. I guess I'll buy the spacer and see if it will hook up with the K&N....

I love my superchip. Does it give me tons of horsepower? No, just a little, but it makes a world of difference in the way the truck shifts and drives.
I got mine off ebay (used) for $50. Now I am not saying you will find that good of a deal, but keep your eyes open on ebay and you can get one for about half of a new price. You just need to make sure that the chip is unlocked, since they will only work on one vehicle at a time.

These Fords have great intakes on them already, you don't need an intake system, all it does is make a cool noise. Change to a bigger Y-pipe and a cat back exhaust and it will do you a lot more good.

Many test have shown that K&N is one of the worst filtering filters on the market.
just my 2 cents
