I forgot that one Gary, I have that in my 30 Model a Streetrod. I do like the wires all on 1 side to save space. I think that is why the builder put it in my car. I have had a few issues but can't reach it so I sent it out to a rod shop and it was a few wires mixed, no big deal. I plan to leave it alone. It looks like ok quality and fits good.

Dome Light:

Dome lights in newer cars break the ground wire, so the positive is hot all the time. I have an EZ wire conversion in our 60. The wire provided is "hot positive" for such a set up. I added the little buttons in the doors, (see picture). These buttons break ground, that is "open ground" with the door closed and "grounded" with the door open. So to make this work with our dome lights you have to mount the dome light so it is ungrounded. I used two rubber washers (one on each side of the dome light) to mount it. then I ran a wire from it to each door switch and to a switch on the dash. The other side of the dash switch goes to ground. So if you open either door or turn on the dash switch the dome light turns on.

Let me know if this is not clear.

I am looking for a complete wiring kit for my 51' F1 all original except that the PO switched things over to 12v using a GM 3 wire alternator. My interest was just sparked ro this thread for the American Aiutowire Highway 15 Universal Wiring System as mentioned by CIAF. I am a little nervous about pulling the trigger on this set, as the American Autowire web site does not show FORD as a vehicle make in their online search system, and the details of this Highway 15 setup specifically mentions GM, not Ford in their description.

Is this really a problem, as the basics on this truck are well...so basic. I have no radio, power widows, a/c or fan motor. I may install an electric radiator fan, if the SWFL temps dictate this once its running again, but the detailed instructions just showing up on the American Wiring web site have pulled me into wanting to purchase one of their systems, but again the GM aspect has me a little nervous.

How many of you have installed the American Wiring Highway 15 system in their 51' range truck without issues?

Thanks in advance

I bought an original style wiring harness from MidFifty back in 1999. It had the same original style fabric covering modern rubber insulation. It was easy to do. I just followed the original harness little by little. Does MidFifty sell them for 51's now that they sell parts for 48-52 trucks? Check them out. A little tweeking by you of course will be needed for your alternator.
