I figured this would be a good place to introduce myself. I just purchased Dan's 78 SC. This is a dream truck for me of sorts. I have been passively searching for one since I let a very nice 78 short box and 79 Snowfighter go late last year. I met Dan by inquiring about some wagon wheels for a 2 year Jeep truck project in my driveway sporting Ford 8 lug axles. I know that if I stumbled across one it had to be a 78 or 79. Engine did not matter as I'm more about longevity and reliability which is why I use 258 straight6's in all of my Jeeps topped off with a MC2100 carb. I really wanted a 4 speed but I'm OK with the auto. I'm actually OK with the HP D44 fronts as well so this one having a D60 front is a sweet bonus. Additionally the Supercab got me hooked as my 2-year Jeep project is a 2 seater and we are a family of 4 with more on the way. The Mrs has an 09 Limited 150 crew cab decked out for pimping (LOL). Since I am so old school and like to "use" my vehicles this is a perfect fit. She is as excited as I am.
I am not a purist by any means and since this truck was assembled from a few different trucks I am all the happier since it has everything I desire. If I have it my way this will be the last truck I buy.
I am a minimalist when it comes to exterior aesthetics. I prefer hot rod flat black, no badges or trim and generally like stock steel rims with 4" of lift or so and TSL's in the 35" range. A picture of the 2-year Jeep truck project is posted below to give you an idea except that the Jeep ended up on 39"s at one point. It will be parted to finance the Ford. My better half insists on dark Ford blue for the exterior and is OK with the lack of trim and any bling. A little lift, some new tires, a freshened up motor, winch bumper and a few other doodads and she will be done (haha - I know - never done).
She's in Mexico and my daughters are in the Outer Banks so Dad will be tinkering with the SC today and tomorrow. I will not take it off the road - just yet. Upgrades will be limited to weekend length projects so it is rolling again. I pulled the 258 out of my Jeep truck in December to degrease and re-gasket and it still sits on my garage floor. Doh! No repeats of that.
Background - Chevy man at 17 (67 Chevelle - 57 Belair). Quickly got in to 4WD when I bought a 1985 Toyota truck. Wheeled Toys for a while. Bought my first Jeep (46 2A in the mid 90's). Had a short relapse and bought an H1. Sold it after a year and bought a 95 Wrangler. Since then I have owned, rebuilt, destroyed over 100 Jeeps - even made a business out of it for a while. I sold off the garage, my huge inventory of rare and NOS parts and complete Jeeps and sunk my money and time in to the Jeep truck - my only personal vehicle. I wanted a one of a kind head turner that could also walk the walk. I achieved that but again - only a two seater. It will be difficult parting with the 85 J10 with 67 Military bed and 67 Civvy front end but well worth it in the end. This Ford SC was a pleasant surprise find 20 minutes from my house.
I will be perusing past threads and educating myself along the way.
Happy 4th and take care!
Pics that Dan took and sent to me. I know that he has the same pics posted elsewhere and perhaps back a few pages in this thread but now it has a new (very happy) owner.
And the J715 2 year project to give you a visual of my tastes - just not going big this time.
And the one I let slip away last year that started this itch that just got scratched.
