Moonroof on 2001 F150

I am about to order a 2001 F150 and I am really considering to get the moonroof option. Does anyone know if it is a glass moon roof or a metal one? My sales person says he thinks its glass but when I'm spending so much money on a Truck I don't like to here the word "think". Any help would be greatly appreciated

Lucky Dog! I got everything I wanted on my truck but, they didn't offer that. I couldn't have got a moonroof on a regular cab anyway. The one I saw at the dealership was glass and had an additional slider on the inside to block out the light. In effect giving you three options, Slider Closed as if it weren't there, Slider Open giving a glass top, and Glass Retracted for the beauty of Nature to enter(incuding bird droppings).

If you sit in a truck without the moonroof and order a truck with moonroof make sure you can live without about three inches of the headroom you experienced in your sampling.

Thanks Raoul. The hlep was greatly appreciated. I think I'll go for it then. I'm ordering a flareside supercab XLT and I thought if I'm spending this much I might aswell get everything I wanted. So I'm going a little overboard

Did dpompei get the truck yet?

I am trying to make the same decision. I've seen the moonroofs on crewcabs, but never on a supercab, do they function adequately, noise, leaks, etc. Nobody has one in stock to show.

What do you think?

Raoul,

What cab configuration was the truck with the moon roof? Reg, SuperCab, or Crew? I don't think they offer it on the SuperCabs because of the structural weekness it would cause. Notice the Crewcabs have ribs on the roof and a pillar between the doors.

Regards

JMC

Hi JMC,
You had me worried that I might have put out some bad info. I've only seen one Supercab at the dealer with the sunroof and didn't think that maybe it had been to an aftermarket shop for customization. I checked some internet sites and they list the option in 2001 for both the SuperCab and SuperCrew.(688 invoice, 810 MSRP)

At those prices I would hope it was like the one I described.
I will swing by after work and make sure it was a 'factory installed' roof.

Yes I got my truck about 3 weeks ago and I love it.

The moon roof is better than I expected. Its glass plus it has a fabric slider. You can open it two ways: either slide it completely open or have it vent up like a sun roof. It works very smoothly with one touch operation. Its the best moon roof I've ever seen. Very quiet. No wind noise when closed or open and only minor wind noise when in vent mode (less noise than if you had your window open).

It definitely adds to the coolness factor of the truck because most people are completely surprised when they see a moon roof in a truck. It is only available on F150s and it must be a supercab. You loose part of the overhead console and the garage door opener controls but I would defintely recommend it.

Thanks for the response;

I was moving fast when i posted that message, and went ahead and got the moonroof for mine also. I agree with you, I can't imagine not getting it for the relativley low cost they put on this option. It really "sets off" the truck and increases the fun factor. Ford started offering this for the supercabs last fall for the 2001 model year. The sales people at the dealership had never seen one until mine was delivered.
THANKS; TDog in Florida

I have a 95 F150 and I was quote $1200 for a moonroof with the inside slider and $275 for a pop-up/removable sunroof.
