carb problems

I have a 1960 Ford F-250 3/4 ton 4x4 with the factory 292. I have a 2 barrel Holley on it now (not the teakettle style). I bought the carb 7 or 8 years ago (reman). I have had nothing but problems with this carb. I have a manual choke.

My question is: Is there another reliable 2 barrel that I can purchase? Friends have told me to swap to a 4 barrel Edelbrock, but I just don't have the funds right now. Thanks!

Have you tried to rebuild it? I bought one of holleys new 2300 series two barrels. It ran good out of box, and went bad after about 1 year, opened it up to find a whole bunch of crap in the bowl(bad gas or stuff from the tank). Put a holley brand rebuild kit, and used wire and air to blow every hole out and it works great. Autolite 2-barrels fit the same bolt pattern. Are you sure its the carb causing the problems?

Yeah, the carb has been gone through, it has been running really rich, and I had someone check it out and he thought it might be my power valve. I replaced the power valve as well as the accelerator pump diaphragm to no avail. The truck died last night. It kinda acted like it was vapor locking. I'm really tired of messing with it.

I have just been checking into the Autolite 2100. Will it be ok for a 292? It seems like the application is for later smallblock Fords(289,302,351).

I have 2 292's. One is on a 60 Galaxie. That has an Autolite 2100. I rebuilt it once about 3 years ago. Not a problem one with it. It can sit for a month and start right up. The other 292 is on a 64 F100. It has a Holley 2300 on it. Rebuilt it last summer just to do it. No problems before of after. Sorry I can't give any hints one way or another just that I have had good luck with both.
