Question Need more power and fuel milage

After my trucks last faliure I have noticed a signifigant drop in fuel milage . I recently took a trip of 55 miles in where I topped of my fuel tank and reset the trip odometer. At an average speed of 80 mph on the all highway trip my truck averaged 10.5 miles per gallon. Not good at $4.25 a gallon. The guy who gave me the fuel tank advice on the last thread, you were right on the money. I haven't fixed it yet but I now notice when going uphilll under heavy acceleration the engine bogs and sputters. What can be done to improve this engines fuel milage and power?

Its not much better at 68 to 75 mph, I still noticed the same consumption on the same trip on the days I drove at lower speeds.

Why not drive 90 mph, that should get your mpg down to about 8. You've got to keep your rpm's under 1900 to expect any decent mpg at all. With the info you posted, your only problem I see is a lead foot.

80 MPH ouch!! They make sports cars for that! Stay 2000 rpm's or under 70 MPH, much better mpg. and more power when you need it..

I stay under 70 and don't race to get to the next red light, just nice and easy on the fuel and i get 17 miles per gallon. Thats before i put the new 4 inch duals on.
