Improvements

Hopefully, Ford has improved on all the issues that surfaced in the 2004-08 models. As for the new "goodies", they sound great - finally a e-Locker. Again, hopefully, Ford has adequately tested the new "goodies" to minimize the problems and causing their customers to foot the cost of repairs that Ford should have had the b---s to FIX - ahh let's see, like the (disintegrating) spark plugs for one, oh and let's not forget the numerous 4x4 system problems. Back on track, I think the tow command is a great concept and will be a welcomed option on the F150 - at least it has been "tested" on the SuperDuty's.

"Goodies" wise, I think the '09 F150 will at least appear better than the Tundra, and may draw some customers back.

The spark plug issues were already addressed with a head design change that went into production for the 2008 model around November.

It seems like it's best to avoid first year models of all vehicles.

I agree completely. I got stung bad with a '95 Tbird that was a "camellian blue" which was a pearl paint. This application or color was new in 1995 and my new car was chock full of paint defects. Before the first paint problem could be addressed, the dealer had to get a paint person trained a Ford school to learn how to apply the pearl paints.

The car had three complete paint jobs and several localized repairs. The car spent over 90 days in the body shop in the four years that I owned it.

Ford tried like hell to buy it back, but they wouldn't pay me the retail value on the car so I kept telling them to pound sand.

Ford has led me to believe that they develop products and work processes and bring those products to market before the techs have been trained to make timely and correct repairs. It's frustrating as hell to make a payment on a vehicle that constantly needs to be fixed.

I don't agree. I got company cars for years and I had four first year models that I ordered sight unseen and before they were introduced. The fifth was my only self bought F-150. They gave me no more problems than the 9 I had that were not first year models (some were crap). They were:

78 Malibu-first year of downsized "midsized"
85 Dodge Lancer
88 Dodge Dynasty
01 Ford Escape
04 F-150

While my truc was in the shop getting all 8 spark plugs removed (they broke each one - had to change 1 head); there was an '07 Expedition that had broken spark plugs they were in the process of "digging out". Ford may have some new heads, but the same problem - breaking plugs, still exists.
It's a scary thought just thinking of buying another F150.

With possibly having a newly designed engine, a 6 speed tranny and other newly designed areas on this truck, I'd be really leery of jumping right in.

It seems like Ford rarely gets it right off the bat.

6 speed tranny has been in the expy for two years now (maybe one), no new engine...still going to have the 5.4 and the 4.6, and most other areas that are redesigned are body and interior...rarely the problem with new vehicles...
