What an exciting day--wow!!!
Hi guys! I am stoked!! I decided to drive my ole trucks to get gas and have them take a spin, after a long winter, and back surgery!
I had 3 people stop me at the station to look at 56F600 and were amazed at how she looked! Then I brought the 1971 F100 and it's maiden voyage, for plates and gas---and the same thing. 5 guys were swarmed around the red 71 and wanted to tell stories of their trucks. And---a 1966 Ford F100 pulled in and we talked for 45 mins.. His truck was from Florida and a little rough, but sturdy and original. We exchanged addresses and numbers.
It is so exciting to hear from others, and they were amazed that I was driving mine now. I do not like the salt-but the roads are clear and a little drizzly out,but fine!! I have to do some work to the 71. The new carb I bought is running crappy, and needs adjusted,And power steering and brakes made me feel like a new truck. The 56 is manual and really takes a whole parking lot to turn
her around, but the looks I got was so inspiring!! LOL....Bill

last weekend, I was putting gas in my Jeep. Guy behind me was putting gas in his unmolested original Dawje Omni. Next to him, A guy approached him and asked about the car. They struck up a good friendly conversation, and in listening, neither even lived in town. I filled up, went on my way. Now, imagine if I had the old Ford sitting in front of him. We all coulda been there for hours, lol.
Good day indeed, Bill.

I bought it on the way home from my ranch in Florida. I found it in Quitman, and from the original owner. A nice ole man,and a farmer with 1000 acres. He called the 56 F600 -ole ticker, and now I call it that too. Thanks.......Bill

Sure are right about the effect these things have on people. Tonight I got mine to move under its own power. This may be the first time it has done that since the invention of unleaded. Certainly the first time since I've had it. Only used two gears and the parking brake, but baby steps... and don't you know that my neighbor (who hasn't said two words to me in two years) walked on over just to shoot the bull about old trucks.
Should we be telling the state department about this?

congrat's cberry---I have been driving the 71 lately and still need to do some carb adjusting, and some tlc....I spent 2 hours today with the guy with the 66 that I met and he was astonished at all the old trucks and parts I have.haha!! My 56 had not run since 1988 I think, till a few yrs ago when I got it. I am still wondering if this 302 in the 71 is ok. It just doesn't have much power. Maybe the carb will need to be worked on,and dual exhaust is in order......Bill
