Jetzon or General Tires???

It's about time to buy some new tires. I'm in college and I'm on a tight budget, so I definitely can't afford BFGs (even though I'd like to).

I want a set of AT that are decently priced (100-150 ea.).

A friend of mine has a set of the Jetzon Revenger A/Ts on his Chevy (he's like a brother but I can't control what he drives). They look pretty good and he tells me that he's got 60K miles (mostly highway) on them and still going, so that's extremely impressive. I don't think I've asked how they did offroad.

My other option is a set of the General Grabber AT2s. Although these are on back order and seem to have been for a very long time, they appear to be just as good as the BFGs and are affordably priced. My only issue with them is that I don't know anyone who has/had them therefore I have no firsthand info.

Any input is appreciated! Thanks fellow Ford Peeps!

I never heard of Jetzon so I can't comment on the quality..

It looks like a decent tire..

The General tires are actually made by Continental..

You might want to check out Pepboys.. They have a decent looking tire the Dakota A/T which is made by Cooper I believe..

They also have a buy 3 get 1 free deal on now..

Here is a link

I'd go with the Grabber AT2. I really like the tread pattern on the AT2 and is a little like the BF A/Ts.

I had a pair of General Grabber TR on my 04' SD from the factory (235/85/R16) and they were decent tires and never gave me troubles.

George Jetzon has his own tires?

Since you're on a budget, decide how much money you can spend and get the best D or E rated AT tires you can. D will save you money and work OK if you don't tow.

Keep in mind, these are cheap tires, they are not going to last 80,000 miles.

If you live in the midwest, pay a visit to your local farm & fleet store. They usually have killer deals on tires, albeit sometimes an off brand.

I would not use General tires if they were given to me for free! A couple of my buddies had them and they were "out of round" and COULD NOT be balanced. Save up some more money and buy a quality name brand tire that will LAST.

Get a set of Nitto Terra Grapplers.

Excellent tire at a good price. I got 295/75/16 for $550 out the door from Discount Tire.

I had 285/75R16 Grabber AT2's on my 02 F250 5.4 and loved them. Balanced fine and i'd buy them again in a second.

Wow....thanks for all the input...one more question before I get into my comments...I've got a stock height truck...would I be able to run 305/75/16s or 305/70/16s without any rubbage?

I think the General Grabbers are out of the question since they are back ordered.

I'm still waiting to hear back from a friend about the Jetzons. I got a quote for some Sport Kings today. They don't seem like a bad tire.

I will definitely looking into the Nitto Terra Grapplers...I thought there were more expensive than what they actually were for whatever reason.

I have to second the Mastercraft's. I have a set on my pickup right now and am very happy with them. IIRC they were $140 each installed. I put a set of Hankook's on my X and they are by far the best winter tires I have ever had (except studded tires). They were $155 installed.

I had the Sport King AT's on my GMC, good tire for the price. Very quiet on the highway and they had excellent wear quality for the price. For a cheaper tire, the grip was good for offroad yet still handled well in snow and ice. Not real aggressive looking, but as I said, quieter ride than a BFG AT.

Given the money you are spending, I would vote for the Sport King AT.

Post Jetzon's are old, yet dependable

I have a 2010 Lariat. Am at 36,000 and ready to get these peice of crap Goodyears off. They're nothing but a cheap overpriced tire.
With that said, I'll be putting Jetzon Revenger A/T on. I have had them before on a different pick-up. Great in the mountains and snow here in PA. But I personally like them a little more than BF A/T, and Grabbers for 2 reasons.
The tread pattern. The Jetzon's are deep 16/32 have 2 channels, and wide opening on the side wall tread that help repel rain water fast.

I agree with whoever said that generals are out of balance. I hear that all the time, and again heard it last night from a very dependable tire shop here. He said it's not just the Grabbers, but all General's in general, so to speak.

Jetzon's are a very wallet friendly, rough and tough tire. They will last you. Many people don't hear of them, because they're older, not very mainstream, and not "cool looking" like bridgestone dueler AT Revo 2.
however, i'm going for dependability not a beauty contest.

Next time you're near a worksite, look at the work trucks tires......Jetzon's.

The General Grabber AT2s are junk! We have them on our 02 F250 4x4 Crew cab V10 super duty running 285 75 R16 tires and they have in the 2000 mile range and have alot of wear almost gone. I have been stuck 3 times in this truck because of them tires in mud and snow. Not to mention they are really soft sidewall which I don't like personally.
