Question 460 vs 300 towing fuel economy

Got a question for you all;

Im looking at two Econoline panels for hauling anything and primarily towing (cars on a trailer) basically work beaters, nothing pretty. Both are 91s so they are fuel injected.

The first one is a E250 with under 90K miles, I havent checked it yet if its a C6 (thats my preferance) its only $500 and has a reciever type hitch.

The second is a E350 460/C6 (real workhorse !!!) it has a receiver hitch also and It runs awesome, and the price is almost the same.

I know neither will do well for fuel economy, but with gas prices going up by the minute the 300 would appear the best. However, one of my Ford buddies (who builds 850 + hp Ford engines) told me while the 300s fuel economy will at best be only a little better when towing, and of course he said the 460 will have alot more ***** for the job.

Any input would be appreciated.

460 hands down. 300s are tough, but this is a job for CID.

But:

For that price, buy them both and try for yourself. $500 for a running vehicle?

I'll be hauling cars for a buddy whos a dealer and he'll also let me bid on a few. He told me full size vans now are almost unsellable. So, either one will be working to earn its keep.

I agree with you on the CID 100 %

Id go with the 460 as well. that van being an e350 has a higher towing capacity. Of course, with that extra CID, is extra fuel cost.
