It is an antitheft device. Your truck is wired through the device and a "cap" with multiple pins i required to be inserted in a receptacle before you can start the vehicle. It is considered by many to be the best anti-theft device. It is NOT a security system in that it does not alarm. Their claim is that there has never been a theft of a vehicle with the Ravelco installed.
I have been struggling with the decision to go with this or go with an alarm and paging system (like the viper). I am still deciding, but I will make my decision today. Two people where I work have had their F250 stolen. I am leaning towards the Ravelco due to the price. If I go this way, I will also install the JimmiJammer plates for the doors.

how do the prongs work? you'd think that you could jump it if you had a bunch of little pieces of wire with you, end the claim to never having a vehicle stolen with Ravelco. I'd never even contemplate stealing anything but it seems to me that eventually thieves will catch on if that is a possibility

I've actually contacted my local Ravelco rep for a quote, he came back with $400 with installation. I talked him down to $219 for just the parts, with self installation. Probably worth it if you're not a monkey with a wrench when it comes to electrical. I'm sure that whomever is looking into getting Ravelco can do the same thing.

All - after this weekend, they will still be on sale but the price will go up to $275.

As I was informed, there are many, many possible wiring strategies that they can use for each vehicle. They pick one and install. There are many more small pin receptacles in the receiving plug than there are pins in the cap. The cap will have say five pins with the recieving plug having say 10 receptacles. The plugs all look the same. The cap is specially designed for the way your system is wired. If you try to randomly stick in wires, there are many hundreds of thousands of combinations to try. It is virtually impossible to "guess them". According to what I have read, they did extensive research and hired "pros" to defeat their system without success.
Even if you are only interested in how they work (and do not intend to buy), call Rob at the number I gave earlier, I'm sure he would be glad to talk with you. He told me he has already received a few calls from other states and was wondering why until I told him of this Forum post. certainly nothing in this world is foolproof or undefeatable - with enough time. Our task is to pick what works best for the money we can spend. For me, $500 was too much, but $250 is acceptable.
