Taking out '04 F150 factory stereo

Ive looked up how to take the factory stereos on the web and they all point to how easy it should be for you to snap off the center console out, but mine isnt. Plus, I do not have the center shift as the one all the diagrams display. Can I pull the front center console off like the ones in here?

It just pulls out you can start at the top or bottom (just above the pull out cup holder). takes me about 5 secs to take out the console. I have column shifter.

Sometimes those clips from the plastic surround can be tough, I know mine were. I started from the top with my finger tips and slowly worked my way down. I didn't use any screwdrivers because I didn't want to scratch any part of the plastic. After I took out the platic surround I squeezed each one of the clips a bit so that they would not be so tough next time around if I ever have to get access again. After you get the plastic off you will need to disconnect a few wire connectors that are atttached to the plastic surround. The air bag light is connected to the top part, and there are 2-3 additional cliped to the bottom. Once you do complete that you only have to unbolt the 4 fasteners that are holding the head unit.

open the ashtray and start at the bottom with a quick two handed tug
then pull in the middle,
then at the top
remove the wire to the airbag warninglight at the top of the bezel you jsut removed, then you can move it out of the way enought to get the radio out ( some wires will still be attached to bezel)

If you need to use a screw driver, wrap it with electrical tape so it doesn't scratch anything.
