Door speaker size 73 f100

I ask in the Audio forum but haven't gottem a reply, and I don't have the truck where I am to find out. Anyone know what size speaker fits in the factory door hole?

6 1/2 round speakers, I use to install at a shop so this is fact. The worst is there's no holes in the door for the wires and are a pain in the ass to drill.

Yep, 6 1/2. Works out great. Never had to drill any screw holes or anything.

6 1/2 are the way to go. That's what I have in my 77 and they're a perfect fit...and the sound good too!

Same here yet again. 6 1/2's. mine kinda push the door panal out at the bottom with the wire cage over the speaker though. Every door panal clip popped in fine but that corner one though. You can force it in there to pop in.

Ok, Dennis will probably kill me for suggesting this, but a certain "unnamed-non-sponsor" with three initials for their company name has "factory speaker wire" jumpers for both doors for sale. I just purchased two and can let you know if they are good or a rip off soon enough.

If the door panels are bulging with the speaker cover on just take them off. I don.t have covers on my door speakers and the panels fit perfectly. the speakers won't touch the door panel so you don't have to worry about it messing them up.

Due to the fact that these doors are as water tight as a screen door the back of the speakers should be protected from getting wet. Most good car adio shops sell a shell caver for the back of the speaker, it's designed to direct sounds and does make a huge difference in sound quality, they also act as a water tight cover to protect the speaker. They fit in the door before the speakers goes in and the screws for the spearker hold both, just thought I'd pass this on.

Hey duste, do you know of a website that I could get a couple of those "shells"? I don't plan on driving my truck in the rain, but I'd like better sound. AFA speaker wire, I just ran a wire with shrink wrap on it through the door. And I plan on leaving the cover off also. Factory speakers never had any cover.

Along the same lines, I want to put a factory AM-FM radio. I'm no audio expert, but is there a limit to the size (wattage size) speakers I should use?

The wattage rating on speakers is only the maximum wattage they will accept.. not the amount of wattage they put out. If you're putting in a factory AM/FM radio you should be fine with just about any set of speakers you find. Only downside is with cheaper speakers you sometimes sacrifice audio quality.

You can try brand name audio equipment and search for dust cover, I think this is what we called them, I'm going back almost 20 years so memory can be hit and miss. If you go to any car audio sales and installation store they should have or be able to get them for you. They do make a big difference in sound quality and reduce the echo produced by those big hollow doors, you will be surprised.

Make your own out of a gallon bleach jug and attach it with either rivets or duct tape .
