To all who are running headers.

Y pipe, X pipe ,H pipe ? What are most of you running? I am running a true dual exhaust. 50 series Flowmaster's. And some unknown headers. I need to tone it down a little .(someone once mentioned being inside a base drum at a Led Zep concert) What would be the best set-up for a stock 352 2v.
I have some old cast iron manifolds . But I don't know what a stock exhaust even looks like on an F250. Was it two into one ? Pics would be nice of a stock exhaust. Thanks for any help.

Rus, Are the pipes dumping under the truck rather than going all the way to the rear? That will make a lot of extra vibes in the cab.

I had a temporary set up of a couple burned out glass packs 6" off my headers and 2" pipe to the front of my rear wheels (292 motor). It cackled when I wanted it to, but I could keep it fairly quiet at 5AM. Had a system put on, and have 2-1/2" and H-pipe and new glass packs past the back of the cab with it dumping in front of the back wheels again. Now it sounds like Led Zep in the cab and is way too loud outside!

I'm going to rework the entire system myself. The 2-1/2" pipe is way too big for my motor and all that pipe under the cab seems to be the in cab noise problem. My plan, in my head, is to use 2" or smaller pipe off the headers, H-pipe, and glass packs as close to the headers as possible. Don't know if thats a good idea or not, but I'll research it when I'm ready.

Yup. They exit right behind the cab. So I should extend them out the back ? I started reading up on back pressure, resonance and lenght of pipe. Then I gave up.

Run them out the back if you want to get rid of the noise and vibes in the cab. You will be surprised at the difference. You want as much tailpipe behind the muffler that you can get.

I'm curious; what engine are you running?

Running a 352.
Thanks for advice jowil . Flowmaster sells a U-Fit exhaust kit. Looks complete enough to get my exhaust up over the diff. and out the back. Thats the only reason why I stopped short. Got my welding down pretty good. Think I'll tackle it myself.
Nice thing about a flat bed. Lots of room on the underside.

View my gallery. My exhaust runs all the way out the back. A little overkill on the 3" inch exhaust but it's what I like. My exhaust runs through flowmasters 3" in and 3" out with some nice looking tips. It's pretty quiet in the cab and a nice rumbbeling sound outside the cab.
