Try looking for more numbers,
F1SE was even Stamped on 88 to 95 3.8 RWD Truck engines from what I am reading

Also found
engine cast # is F1SE according to ford it is a block from 89-95 ford mustang H.O, cobra, t-bird, cougar, linc mark vii and mercs.
And to add, From what I have read, the F1 means it was either re-engineered or Updated in 1991. This does not mean it was in a 91 vehicle, just when the block design was updated.

So, can I be reasonably sure this is a roller block before I tear it apart and dont have a chance to return it?

If it doesnt have the anti-knock sensor boss, is that a big deal?

thanks

the block is a roller block.

what did you get from the salvage yard? a complete engine would be my guess...do you just plan to R&R what you currently have in your truck?

what is the firing order on the fise from the salvage yard. if it is 1 3 7 2 6 5 4 8, i would guess that it is a roller motor.

i would not worry about the knock sensor, but if your harness has the connector, i would leave the KS connected and stored out of the way. that is what i did on my 83 conversion and have had no issues.

cheers, claude

Garsten,
Got a complete engine, less bell-housing. Told them I wanted a 5.0 for my 94 (it has a 4.9 now, long story on why I went with 5.0 over 5.8). I didnt ask what it came out of, they assured me it was compatible with 94 f150 sb. I am out of town (actually in Phoenix garsten) and havent seen engine yet, got somebody else checking the numbers for me. I just wanted to be sure I have a roller block before I tear it down.

Last question (ok, not really), when I start getting parts (cam, etc) do I have to know year of engine?

Thanks

did you get the computer and wiring harness also?

no, i would just use stuff originally mfg'd for a 94 truck, since that is what it is going into. or whichever vehicle you are trying to build this engine to match...pick a year and stick with that year.

the block and heads will have casting dates on them and that will give you an idea of what year vehicle the engine went in.

once upon a time, ford also stamped some blocks with the date the engine assembly began.

cheers, claude

I plan on getting computer and engine harness from one of the local yards, also bell housing. I called the company I bought it from this morning (LKQ/Action Crash) and they researched it and said it came from a 94 F150. Thanks all, I appreciate the help. Once I get this thing tore down I will be back for 5.0 mild mod suggestions.

Great site!

F1SE + roller 5.0 block. The "S" means squat as far as what vehicle it was originally installed in at the factory. Same casting was used in ALL Ford/Lincoln/Merc applications using a 5.0 motor.

All the engine bolt holes are the same as a 66 289, with the exception of the clutch pivot bolt for the Z bar in the lower rear driver's side of the block. The heads are a different story, the bolt holes in the ends may be different, I ran into this trying to get an early engine into an 89 Ranger using later model accessory brackets. The water pump and timing cover is very much different, the 66 accessory brackets will not bolt up to the Explorer setup, so you'll need to use the 66 timing cover and pump

To add to the above, there are three bolt holes in the generator / alternator end of the head. When swapping a 1969 engine in place of my '64, I found that one of the holes was moved approximately 1/16 inch. It would seem peculiar that Ford changed the mounting by such a little amount, but perhaps it coincided with the replacement of generators with alternators in 1965.
