Not true, especially in the 97 and 98 models, the 4.6 in these two years were the better engine to have. In 99 was it any gain to have the 5.4.

after 150,000 on my 03 EB 5.4L the maintenance schedule ends. the dealer said to start over at mile zero. Anyone know where I can get a good break-in oil?

yes they had a lower hp/tq rating in 97/98. but i've driven both a 4.6 and my 5.4 both with 3:73s and the 4.6 felt like a dog to me. maybe thats just the butt dyno lying but i dont think so. the 5.4 did have more HP/TQ then the 4.6 in either case.

We just bought an 06 with 78,000 miles on it. It is our first expedition, when we brought it home from the dealership over the weekend we found it was misfiring and they ended up changing the plugs and coil (it runs great now). From what I've read it seems this isn't entirely uncommon on these vehicles and I'm hoping for many, many miles out of it.

I have 161,000 on my 2000 Expedition 5.4. No major issues so far, but quite a few little (and cheap, thankfully) things.

204500 on my 1999 5.4L.
Lots of rust, broken windshield, most electrical inoperative. I am the 9th owner, so I doubt everyone gave this truck love. Changed 6 of 8 cops. Rusted tranny fluid coolant lines replaced. Parking brake cable, brake shoes, rear axle seal, all fluids ( like a million quarts), front drive axle, and more.
It is old. It can tow a house. Amazing.
The engine should last forever. At 5.4L and 345 TQ it is severely under stressed. Really. At that size it should be putting out almost double the power. It is somehow nice that Ford produced a very simple engine with little to go wrong. There is something to be said for low tech!!
I am expecting at least 50000 more miles of towing-only miles from this truck, and I think she can do it.

275k on my 98' Eddie Bauer, 5.4L. I love this truck. Original motor and tranny. Sold to me fraudulently what turned out to be a flood salvage truck. I've put 150k on it. Everyday it runs it has become a better deal.

Recently It was idling real rough. Drove fine, but idle was "panting" or real high (1000 to 1200.) I just removed, cleaned (real dirty) the entire Throttle Body, adapter, and installed a new IAC valve, replaced all vacuum boots, cleaned the MAF sensor. (I could not break the bolts on the EGR so left it as is).

Out of pocket $75 for everything (IAC, gaskets, cleaners) Time: about 3 to 4 hours and I have never done anyting like that before. (I first learned the system on this site)

Savings: Easily $2,000 plus.

My truck has never run, or idled better. I highly recommend performing this maintainance.

I need new front air shocks bad. Spring time project.
