Got an 97 expedition that just turned 241000 , yup she leaks alittle oil from the oil filter adaptor at the block, but other than that she runs great , new front end about two weeks ago just to be safe (upper and lower ball and tie rod ends) new shocks , only one major break down at about 200000, blew out the third member , dont know how i did it as i dont tow anything , just made a right turn and bam there it went. stuck a arburn limited slip in place just because it was cheaper than stock. shes a work truck for me as i drive it about 80 to 100 miles a day for my job

'98 Expy XLT, 5.4L 2wd
Um, I guess we got lucky with our '98, it has 262,000 on it now and we've never had any of the problems I saw people writing about when I was skipping through the replies. Never had to replace or fix the differential, never replaced ball joints or tie rod ends, never had a spark plug blow.
The only things aside from routine maintenance we've had to do are replace the alternator at about 150,000, and a transmission speed sensor at about 250,000. Literally, that's all. There were other things but they were just cosmetic/accessory type stuff, we've had to have both the front windows glued back on to the metal clips that hold them on track, and replace the two front speakers cause my dad blew them listening to AC/DC turned up way too loud.
They haven't been 262,000 easy miles, either. Everyone in my family including me has a lead foot! And until I started changing the oil myself at about 195,000, it wasn't getting changed near as often as it should have been (at one point it went 8,000 miles without a change...). Transmission filter has only been changed 3 times, lol, did a pan drop at 63,000, pan drop at 120,000 and a complete drain at 213,000. Never slips or shifts hard, just like new. Absolutely NO leaks at all, anywhere on the truck. Unfortunately, the motor has pretty bad piston slap and a nasty knocking/rattling coming from the top end of the motor only when accelerating before it's reached normal operating temperature, but heck, it's been doing that for over 50,000 miles. I think the Tritons are hard to kill...
Anyhow, I think if you aren't an idiot with these things, they'll last forever. I can't see the engines or trannies dying unless you've done really stupid things to them. I'd definitely recommend this generation Expedition. It's been faithful to us through countless camping trips, out of state road trips, etc. Until 254,000 it had the original radiator hoses and serpentine belt! The hoses still looked great to me then, but my dad wanted them changed just in case.

2000 Expy with 292k Never have been into the engine or trans. fluid changes trans/rear at 50K intervals. Most hwy miles. 108K on the Michelin tires. 4.6 with 3.31 rear. Ball Joints and Tie rod ends, water pump at 185K miles. Biggest problem is whether to buy a new set of Michelins and see if I can make 350K or give it to a single mom that I know. They dont build them like this one anymore.

MILEAGE ON 2001 EXPEDITION
I just turned 265,000 miles on my 2001 Ford Expedition XLT. It is a 5.4L and I've always used Mobil 1 5w20 6 quarts with a Fram XG2 filter. Spark plugs have been changed 2x at 100K each time. 1 A/C compresser at 110K. Rear wiper wont work half the time, but I drive it every day!!
