Hello Chad
I havn't tried to start plants in my basement but it sounds interesting! We have a Veggie Garden up at our cottage but we specializie in "Different" Veggies. Most years we get 50 to 75 pounds of "Russian Blue" potatoes and this year I am going to try the "All Reds". Other veggies we grow are Purple Pole Beans, Scarlet Runner beans( for the Humming Birds), Carrots (just the Nantes style), French Shallots, Hybrid Squash, Summer "Purple Top" turnip. Yellow Tomatoes, "Rainbow" swiss chard, Snow Peas and Detroit Red Beets (for pickles) to name a few. I was looking over the Dominion Seeds Catalogue and notice that they have Mushroom Kits for sale to I was thinking of giving them a try this year. Between canning and freezing that little garden of ours provides us with veggies all winter and they are a lot better for us as well. We use only natural products to fight pests and the only fertilizer we use is compost and well rotted cow manure.
Can't wait for the spring so I can get my hands dirty!!
Have a Good one!

We put in a garden every year. Its fun watching it grow. I haven;t started seeds on my own in years. I support the local green house dood and by the small plants off of him in the spring. I seem to have better luck with transplanting his stuff and don;t mind sending a few $ his way. Nothing exotic for us ... Big on tomatoes and cukes. We did try red peppers last year and they worked well so they will make the cut again this year.

Got most stuff in the garden a couple weeks already. The pepper plants and cucumbers are waiting another week or so though. Got beets, onions, and carrots coming up in the garden, need to make more space for the other stuff.
Got a bunch of plants from my uncle and from my parents yesterday, including a nice pair of year-old black locust trees. These things are really off to a nice start, because they grew from suckers, not from seeds, so they were feeding off a big network of roots.
