bad diode

I need the advice of the PSD gurus. My origiinal '96 has a bad diode and I was wondering which alternator I should use - stock alternator v HD higher amp? I'm inclined to go with the higher amp as I figure the more amps the better. Any ideas or on board experiences?

With a stock alternator that is "hopped up" it also created excessive heat which affects longevity. The ambulance alternator is 215 amp and is a monster. Thats what I am hoping to do upgrade to when my alt goes. It requires a different belt, longer bolts and a different wiring harness. Its also a very expensive unit!

I don't think I'm ready to the ambulance route just yet. I'll be stopping by the local parts house tomorrow and will see what choices are available. I'll report in on the weekend if I choose the alt. tomorrow. Skip
