Gas Stain on uncured paint

Alright here's a doozey that made me sick. My brother just got his truck out of the paint booth, filled up the gas tank that sits behind his seat in a 77 250. He filled the tank when it was cold out one night. He got up the next morning when it was about 40 degrees warm the gas expanded and seaped out the neck of the tank down the side of his truck. We're hoping it just stained the first or second layer of clearcoat. So my question is does anyone have any tips or tricks to try and get this stain out? Or just strip the clear and put another couple of layers on? Thanks for the help.

Try some rubbing compound or a product like Turtle Wax Cut N Shine. If that doesn't work, you may have no choice but to re-do the clear coat.

I would start with the least abrasive product I could. A good cleaner wax, then a clear coat polish and clay bar before I got into a cutting compound.

My first instinct would be to ask the painter what to do.

Look, see these two tow hooks? They look like tusks. And what kind of animal has tusks?

there's a very fine line between not listening, and not caring. I like to think that I walk that line every day of my life.

The painter said bring it back in and they'd strip the clear and relayer. I just didn't know if there were anyother options. Thanks for the input.

If he thinks the only/best option is strip and re-apply the clear coat, there isn't much you can do that will come close. I personally think you both will be happier with the painter's solution.
