I pulled the distruber out and dont have a clue how to instal.any tip would be appreciated.I was told that i should have marked it after i pulled it out.I just got the info after the fact.

 

I am not sure on something that old. I have no experience on point type dist.

Just guessing Get the #1 cyl to Top dead center. Install the dist to where it is pointing @ # 1 cylinder on the rotary cap. You can then crank it and adjust the timing either by ear or with a timing light.

Their should be timing marks on the harmonic balancer.

 

I think Robert is right. Just make sure it's TDC on compression stroke (not exhaust), with both valves closed.
