Lower Steering Shaft w/ Coupler

I need to replace the steering Coupler for my 1985 f150. I have not found anything new. Does anyone know if just the Coupler can be replaced or does the whole shaft have to be replaced? Also any idea on where to find a new/rebuilt one.

Thanks

Are you talking about the coupler at the box, you may want to check out places like Flaming River, they do a lot of that kind of stuff.

It sounds like you're talking about the rag joint. Yes, it can be changed without changing whole shaft. You will need to drill out the rivets holding the old joint to the steering shaft. The new joint woll bolt on.

Dorman ie, HELP! makes a replacement joint that bolts right up to the steering box spline.
#31008, I just went through the whole drilling, bolting crap and would like to kill my parts guy for not opening the book.

You didn't miss out on anything. The Dorman part number is 31008. All replacement couplings use a pinch bolt on the steering box spline....you still need to drill the rivets off the intermediate shaft and bolt the new coupling to it. They do make a universal kit, but that just replaces the rubber disc....even more drilling and bolting.

No my NAPA sold me just the disc of tire sidewall. What a PITA!
Then I found this on Dorman's site.
I was looking to save dpellicone all the extra work.

Sounds like NAPA just gave you a universal kit....that would be a major pain.
