Trans fluid change?

Are you guys changing your own fluid? If so are you pulling the line to flush the cooler also? Any input on the best way to do this? Also do we have a filter that needs to be changed? What about the transfer case and rear differential? I have a 2005 4wd V6 and I need to service it. I have tried to find a good repair manual but all I could find was a CD. I bought it and it doesn't tell much about servicing the vehicle. We seem to have lost the owner's manual as well.
Thanks!

I have an 05 also V6 XLT auto. I grabbed a manual off E-Bay for about 12 bucks if I remember right. As far as flushing the trans, from what I have read on this web is that you drain what you can (About 4 quarts) refill, then drive around using all gears plus reverse. Then repeat about 3 more times till the trans has been "flushed". Hope this helps.
Chris,

linedog is right, this is the right procedure to change transmission fluid at home. We have no filter that can be replaced. There is an internal filter that suppose to last the whole transmission life.

Transfer case has drain plug, just drain the old oil and fill with new one. Requires half-quarter of 75W140 synthetic.

Rear diff has no drain plug, you'll need a syringe to drain and refill it. Requires quarter and a half of 80W90.

One more very important note, use plain old Mercon fluid. Not the new and improved Mercon V. Sorry about the spelling.

It's 2005 Escape, should be programmed for MerconV. Plain Mercon discontinued in July 2007.

As far as I know, MerconV can be used in all applications that require plain Mercon, but not vice versa. Confirm with your local Ford dealership to be 100% sure, don't trust strangers on the internet
